A mixed-use building combining a bazaar, offices and housing on the port's historic axis.
Liman Çarşısı is a 28,000 square meter mixed-use building on the city's old port axis that connects shopping, offices and housing with thresholds. A public bazaar street is on the ground floor, offices on the upper floors and 64 apartments at the top.
Design approach
The building mass is divided into seven parts to suit the scale of the surrounding narrow streets. The bazaar street works as an air corridor catching morning and evening breezes. Local stone and timber shutters were used on the facades.

Materials and construction
The building was constructed with steel-composite floors and reinforced concrete cores. The canopy over the bazaar street is made of ETFE membrane and timber beams; external shading on office floors cuts the cooling load by 30 percent in summer.
