Seramik Müzesi, Kütahya

Kütahya, Türkiye · 2021

A museum telling the tile and ceramic tradition through kiln-shaped exhibition volumes.

The Ceramics Museum brings together the city's 600-year tile tradition and contemporary ceramic production. The exhibition halls are designed as seven domed volumes recalling the silhouette of traditional kilns; the streets between volumes connect with the city's bazaar fabric.

Design approach

Yellowish local stone and handmade ceramic tiles were used on the facades. Working with 14 local masters, 38,000 unique tiles were produced. The museum lets visitors witness the production process in workshops.
