Eski Sanayi Bölgesi Dönüşümü, Adana
Reimagining an 18-hectare abandoned industrial area as park, housing and workplaces.
The Former Industrial Zone Regeneration reimagines an 18-hectare abandoned cotton factory area on the riverbank as park, housing and creative workplaces. Brick chimneys and factory silhouettes will be preserved as part of the new urban identity.
Design approach
Fifty-five percent of the area will be set aside as park and water buffer zone, and 70 percent of existing buildings will be reused. The regeneration will be completed in phases over 12 years and supported by a housing policy that allows current residents to stay.

Materials and construction
Structural condition reports were prepared for 62 existing factory buildings. For buildings to be reused, light steel additions will be made instead of new reinforced concrete to reduce carbon, so embodied carbon will be about 55 percent lower than new construction.
