Shade in Public Space

The paper presented at the congress shows the effect of tree shade and water elements on reducing urban heat, using measurements at İstasyon Meydanı. In summer afternoons surface temperatures in the square were measured on average 11 degrees lower than on surrounding roads.

About the publication

The paper compares temperature measurements taken at İstasyon Meydanı by tree species, shade ratio and ground material. Findings show that using trees and water elements together was the most effective cooling strategy in the square.
